Editor's comment A property for the discerning, oozing character and combining the best of Greek island style with modern comfort. Built at a time when the prosperous Cycladic islands were plaqued by pirates, this mansion allowed its occupants to defend themselves and to see the pirate ships coming well in advance. Today, the house is a place of discovery and a constant feast of the senses with its quirky layout, different levels and hideaways, where one can relax and enjoy the views. About Tinos The island of Tinos displays all the features of a typical Aegean island - natural sandy beaches, mild climate, beautiful countryside. In addition, it has a rich cultural background and a distinct architectural style. Intricately decorated dovecotes, like the one shown above, are found all over the island. The greenish-white Tinos marble is one of the best and it is still being used today by local sculptors. The island is the birthplace of many distinguished Greek artists and it hosts one of Greece's Art Universities. The island is also famous for its magnificent Church of Megalohari, with the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary. On the 15th of August each year (a day dedicated to Virgin Mary), the island is visited by thousands of Greek and foreign visitors. Tinos is accessible by boat from the ports of Piraeus and Rafina with daily departures all year. It is also possible to fly to the nearby islands of Syros or Mykonos, and then go to Tinos by a short ferry trip. In summer, Mykonos connects by international charter flights to many European cities. |
