About Neapolis On the southeastern shore of the Gulf of Laconia, is the seaside town of Neapoli, stretching along the bay at the foot of Mountain Parnon. It is a peaceful and clean town with wonderful beaches and sparkling clean sea. While its maritime tradition is still much in evidence, Neapoli has also grown to become a popular holiday destination with its clean beaches, a variety of cafes and bars and restaurants specialising in seafood, including the local speciality, grilled octopus. Hydrofoils and ferries connect Neapoli with the island of Kithera and nearby Elafonisos. Hydrofoils also link Neapoli with the eastern shore of the Peloponnese and with Piraeus. Neapoli also has port facilities for visiting yachts. How to get there
By car from
Athens Sightseeing Many of the surrounding areas are nature reserves, gathering rare species of birds and plants, such as the unique tulip Goulimi and the spring cyclamen, almost red coloured. Many birds such as silver pelicans, wild ducks and swans find shelter there. In the sea, between Neapolis and Elafonisos, one can see the ruins of an ancient settlement. There are many Byzantine chapels and churches, many in good condition, that evoke awe to the visitor with their interior and the view over the sea. There is a wonderful cave with stalactites and stalagmites and, in the Cape Malea area, there is a little known petrified forest with million years old trees. |
